History of Medicine: His Sword a Scalpel: General Charles Stuart Tripler, MD, USA
Webinar
Description:
This webinar discusses a new book on Doctor Charles Stuart Tripler, one of the mid-19th century's leading practitioners and a loyal member of the US Army Medical Bureau. Doctor Tripler was stationed in Detroit for much of his career, was posted to Port Huron, and helped found Harper Hospital as Michigan's first medical facility for recuperating soldiers. Civil War Medicine is traditionally labeled as “barbaric” – but this webinar will talk about the real state of care, Tripler's role in the formation of medical societies, and how politics undermined his career and advancement.
