Description: These sessions are part of the Michigan State Medical Society Addressing Health Equity in Michigan webinar series and meets 3 hours of Michigan's LARA requirement for three hours of implicit bias training.

Objectives (Caring for Patients with Disabilities):

  • Define and understand terms related to disability in healthcare
  • Differentiate and understand major federal policies that protect people living with disabilities, including medical students and physicians
  • Understand how disabilities contribute to health disparities
  • Gain awareness of Disability Theories over time

Objectives (Identities and Cancer Disparities):

  • Review the concept of Minority Stress and impact on health outcomes in the United States related to cancer
  • Examine cancer risk factors, screening rates, and barriers to care within the LGBTQ+ communities
  • Understand and be prepared to advocate on the importance of SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) data collection
  • Consider and reflect on opportunities for improvement - Learn about Project ECHO as an example
