Join us for our History of Medicine presentation by Craig Wilson, Chief Curator, Mackinac State Historic Parks

This presentation will provide an overview of the life of William Beaumont, MD with a particular focus on his time as post surgeon at Fort Mackinac on Mackinac Island (1820-1825). During his tenure, Doctor Beaumont met and treated Alexis St. Martin, a young French Canadian voyageur severely injured in a tragic firearm accident in 1822. Their relationship formed the basis for nearly 240 experiments helping Doctor Beaumont to definitively describe the process of human digestion.
