CPT 2019 defines a modifier as a two-digit code used to report or indicate that a service or procedure performed has been altered by some special circumstance but has not changed in its definition or code. So how do you know what documentation is needed for a particular Modifier?
Do you know why payers scrutinize the use of modifiers 25 and 59? Do you when you should use modifiers XE, XS, XP or XU instead of modifier 59? Do you ever wonder whether you should use modifiers RT and LT or modifier 50? Do you understand the difference in modifiers 52 and 53? What about modifier 33? Are you using is appropriately? There are many CPT and HCPCS modifiers that provide information to the payers, that help tell the story of the visit. If you are using the appropriate modifier at the appropriate time, you can reduce denials and subsequent appeals and receive the appropriate reimbursement on the initial claim. Bring your redacted notes for an open discussion. Bring 10 copies so all in attendance can look at these together.
This session is designed for medical billers and coders and will discuss proper use of CPT modifiers, as well as common HCPCS modifiers.
