Friday, December 9, 2022
9:00 am - 4:00 pm
(one hour lunch break)

CPT Updates:

In 2021, CPT saw significant changes to Office and Other Outpatient Services Guidelines and their Codes.  Some aspects of these changes have been affected for the upcoming year.  For 2023 CPT, significant changes to the remainder of the E&M coding section have taken place.  This includes codes for Prolonged Care.  Understanding the new Guidelines and Code descriptions in addition to seeing which codes are deleted is important to anyone working with the E&M Coding system.  Other changes can be found in the Integumentary subsection, Musculoskeletal, Cardiovascular and Auditory Systems.  Finally, a significant number of new codes can be found in the Digestive Section with new codes in four different areas.

ICD-10 Updates:

Revisions and additions to the ICD-10 coding guidelines will be presented.  Then an overview of the 1,176 new and revised codes for 2023 will be presented.  Additional information on some codes will be presented to give participants a better understanding of why there are the new codes and what clinical implications these have in their practical application.  Highlights include information on:

  • A new code for Prolonged Grief Disorder
  • Significant additions to the Code First and Excludes I section for Mild Neurocognitive disorders due to know physiological conditions
  • Codes in the Mental & Behavioral Disorders Due to Psychoactive Substance Use section that are now classified as being "in-remission"
  • Large numbers of new codes in the sections on Vascular Dementia, dementia in Diseases Classified Elsewhere and Unspecified Dementia
  • Expansion of Acidosis section with new codes with Lactic, Respiratory and Metabolic Acidosis
