Description:
There is a complex and morally significant relationship between clinical medicine and community health. Social factors strongly affect how our patients get sick, what kind of access they have to health care, and how well they manage their illnesses over time. Resource scarcity and health inequality raise important ethical questions for clinical practitioners as they navigate patient care amidst a variety of challenging social systems. To explore these important issues, the 2021 MSMS Conference on Bioethics will address the intersection of ethics, inequality and public health, with a particular focus on how social inequalities impact clinical medicine and raise or amplify ethical dilemmas in the clinical context.
