This presentation reviews federal and state laws and basic principles related to medical records management including recordkeeping, allowable copying charges, retention, and destruction. Participants will gain a better understanding of the legal and ethical obligations regarding medical records management to ensure compliance.
Objectives:
- Apply current federal and state recordkeeping requirements.
- Identify and follow key medical record standards.
- Develop strategies to ensure compliance with federal and state laws related to medical record creation, maintenance, and access.
- Locate and utilize reliable resources to answer questions about legal and ethical issues related to the management of medical records.
