Grand Rounds Live Webinar Series:
Closing the Gap: Translating the 2026 PSSC Guidelines into Clinical Practice
Wednesday, July 8, 2026
12:00 – 12:45 PM EST

In April of 2026, the Society of Critical Care Medicine published the most recent set of Pediatric Surviving Sepsis Campaign Guidelines.  These guidelines were generated by a panel of 68 international experts, representing 13 international organizations, as well as six methodologists.  A total of 61 statements on the management of children with sepsis or septic shock were generated with 5 strong recommendations, 24 conditional recommendations, and 10 good practice statements.

This activity identifies the major shifts in pediatric resuscitation and stabilization, and longer term management.  Participants will analyze the clinical rationale behind the 2026 updates and explore the distinct physiological requirements that differentiate pediatric sepsis bundles from the Adult Surviving Sepsis guidelines.

 Learning Objectives

By the end of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Integrate key features of the 2026 PSSC guidelines into the initial assessment and stabilization of pediatric patients across emergency and inpatient settings.
  2. Differentiate the 2026 pediatric management algorithms from the 2020 standards to ensure clinical practice aligns with the most current evidence.
  3. Compare the physiological and procedural differences between Pediatric and Adult Surviving Sepsis Campaign guidelines to prevent the misapplication of adult protocols to children.
  4. Adopt specific 2026 "Good Practice Statements" to improve the safety and efficacy of pediatric septic shock management.
